New Equipment Provides Samsula Landfill With Increased Uptime And Operator Efficiency

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL – Gary Brouillette, General Manager of the Landfill Division of Samsula Waste Inc., was shopping around for a dependable material handler to replace the company’s existing machine. After looking over the competition, he chose to purchase a SENNEBOGEN 825 M D Series machine with its Cummins engine, generous 47’ of reach and enhanced safety features from Briggs Construction Equipment.

“In the end, we decided to go with the reliability and dependability of the purpose-built SENNEBOGEN material handler which is tailor made for our waste, recycling and landfill needs,” says Brouillette. “In the nine months we’ve had our new 825 M, we’ve had absolutely no problems with it – it just runs and runs. All we’ve done so far is routine maintenance. That’s the kind of uptime and productivity we expect and require of our equipment.”

The 825 D Series with the distinctive feature of a sliding door and an adjacent catwalk, provides operators with increase comfort and safety.

Samsula Landfill is one of the four divisions of the parent company Samsula Waste Inc., which was founded in 1980 by company President Yancey McDonald. Spread out over approximately 67 acres, the Landfill Division employs 30 people and serves the counties of Volusia, Flagler and Brevard in mid-eastern Florida. The experienced team at Samsula Landfill provides fast and dependable service to residential, commercial and industrial customers, including construction and waste companies and general contractors.

SENNEBOGEN 825 M does double-duty at Samsula
Fitted with a Gensco five-tine grapple with a magnet, the SENNEBOGEN 825 M D Series is being used primarily to separate construction and demolition debris at the landfill site. It is also used to feed a Horizontal Wood Grinder. Samsula went with a rubber-tired machine to enable operators to get around the yard quickly and efficiently. The distinctive cab on the 825 D Series is loaded with new features designed to increase operator efficiency, comfort and productivity, including a revolutionary sliding door combined with the adjacent catwalk, improved access to maintenance areas, and upgraded climate control systems. Samsula operators speak highly of the great visibility the unit’s elevating cab affords them, particularly when they are feeding the grinder.

Moving up to the bigger machine with its TIER III emissions-compliant 204 hp Cummins engine has increased the site’s productivity, according to Brouillette. “Since we took possession of it nine months ago, more often than not we’ve been running the SENNEBOGEN 825 M ten hours a day, six days a week and we haven’t had to do one thing to it,” says Brouillette. “The Cummins engine in the 825 M makes a world of difference. And, of course, the 47’ of reach on the machine is a real bonus.”

Briggs Equipment has been a dependable partner
Brouillette speaks highly of Mitch Roberts, Sales Representative, and the rest of the sales and service staff at Briggs Construction Equipment. “They’re always there for us,” says Brouillette. “The people at Briggs understand uptime and machine availability. When my previous material handler was down, they were quick to bring me a replacement machine and change my grapple over. Mitch is the best there is – he always does a fine job and is very attentive to our needs.”

Mitch Roberts is appreciative of the faith and trust Samsula Landfill has placed in Briggs. “We work hard to gain the trust of customers like Gary Brouillette by meeting their sales and service needs 24/7,” says Roberts. “Building relationships is what brings about repeat business.”

Primarily used to sort debris at the landfill, operators really appreciate the visibility that the elevating cab gives them.

Would Samsula acquire another SENNEBOGEN material handler should the need arise? “Sure, but for now we are happy to know that our SENNEBOGEN 825 M is going to answer the call each day from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. six days a week. That’s the kind of reliability that our SENNEBOGEN delivers,” says Brouillette.

The D Series – SENNEBOGEN’s fourth generation of material handlers
SENNEBOGEN was among the first manufacturers to offer the scrap and recycling industries a line of purpose-built material handling equipment in place of excavators retrofitted for unique lifting applications. Today, SENNEBOGEN offers the widest range of material handlers with operating weights ranging from 48,000 to 350,000 lbs. in rubber tired, crawler and pedestal versions. The company’s D-Series models are SENNEBOGEN’s fourth generation of material handling machines to America.

On the D Series machines, the safety features are centered around the cab.

o A revolutionary sliding door combined with the adjacent catwalk, provides an easy and safe way for the operator to step into and out of the cab without the awkwardness of a swinging door hitting the catwalk rail.
o Getting to and from the cab is easier with a cab position that provides easy access for the operator via a small set of stairs.
o Upgraded climate control systems in the cab create a comfortable atmosphere that keeps operators alert, attentive and undistracted.
o Improved access to maintenance areas, such as a centralized undercarriage greasing point, makes maintenance easier and safer.
o TIER III emissions-compliant engines.

With the D Series, SENNEBOGEN offers upgrades in line with the company’s philosophy of keeping its machines simple: Simple to operate, simple to maintain and simple to appreciate.
